Deadline for applications for the AuthenticA Series Lab extended to 24 May 2022

The Realness Institute, in partnership with The StoryBoard Collective, is happy to announce an extension for submissions for the AuthenticA Series Lab, to grant the many interested hopefuls a grace period to complete their submissions. Applicants will now have until 24 May 2022 to apply.

In its inaugural edition, the AuthenticA Series Lab, which is aimed at developing authentic African stories told by Africans, will afford four screenwriters the unique opportunity to develop their original stories, of all genres, in episodic form. The six-month lab is set to take place from 28 September 2022 to 7 April 2023.

Realness Institute has partnered with The StoryBoard Collective and Series Mania to produce this packed and thrilling programme where the selected participants will get the coveted opportunity to attend in-person residencies in South Africa for eight days, Switzerland for two months and pitch their projects at the 2023 edition of Series Mania in France. Based in Lille since 2018, Series Mania has become the biggest event dedicated uniquely to television series in Europe.

All travel and accommodation for the South African, Swiss and Series Mania legs of the programme will be covered by the programme. While in South Africa, the cohort will be accommodated at the scenic and tranquil Coot Club (https://cootclub.com/) in Stanford, Western Cape. The two months in Switzerland, will be spent at the quaint and picturesque StoryBoard house in Geneva. The selected participants will also receive a monthly stipend of 1000 EUR, allowing them the time and freedom to focus on developing their original stories.

In between the in-person residencies, the writers will be working from home, attending online sessions, and will be accompanied by Story Expert, Selina Ukwuoma, and Creative Producer, Mehret Mandefro on their creative journey.

The outcome of the programme is that each participant will deliver a Pitch Deck and Bible of international standards, including a pilot script. The rights of the material developed, through the programme, will remain with each writer.
